Welcome to the website Nepal-Art.com, where you can learn more about Nepal's traditional art of thangka paintings. Thangka paintings are religious art that Buddhists use to represent gods, goddesses, mandalas and historical figures. The thangka is a uniquely Tibetan traditional art that evolved between the 7th and 12th centuries. Its origins lay in Indian religious art, but Nepalese, Chinese and Kashmiri styles also influenced its development. Painted on canvas and mounted in silk brocade, a thangka is more than just a work of art. It is an object of devotion, an aid to spiritual practice, and a bringer of blessings.
We work together with a select group of specialized thangka painting schools with some of the most devoted and experienced artists. Depending on the size and quality of the painting it can take several months to finish one single painting. This is not so strange if one realizes that Thangka paintings are famous for its immense amount of detail and highly geometric composition. The various types of paintings displayed on the site have one thing in common which is their quality. They are carefully selected and must meet our high quality standards.
As a big fan of mountaineering, especially in the Himalayas, we also offer oil and water color paintings of the impressive mountain range, showing its people and animals in their natural environment. Everyone that has been to Nepal will directly remember the impressive landscapes and warmness of its people that make visiting this country to such a unique and memorable experience. For many travelers, including myself, it meant that that first visit wouldn't be the last one!
Enjoy your visit!
